Street Scene Italyby Daniel Putnam Brinley 1905 Oil and gouache on canvas board 17 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches Signed by the artist with his monogram 'DPB'. Brinley traveled extensively throughout Europe with his wife from 1904-1908 and completed many canvas' and drawings along the way. He was exhibited in several important exhibitions in Paris including the Solon d'Automne in 1905 & 1906; The American Art Association in 1907, and in April 1908 he co-organized & exhibited in Paris with a group of Americans known as The New Society of American Painters, a modernist leaning group that included Edward Steichen, Dale McLaughlin, Max Weber, John Marin, Alfred Maurer, Arthur B. Carles. |
